The Night Water 600th Subscriber Special
A Q&A with our 600th subscriber, Jack Isacke
For some, subscribing to Night Water is more than just haphazard action they take on a random Thursday. It's a calling, a compulsion, a deep-seated obsession that leads to irrational digital acts. Take, for example, the lonely farmhand Jud Fry from the musical Oklahoma!, who, towards the end of the first act, sings:
I ain't gonna dream 'bout it no more!
I ain't gonna leave it alone!
Goin' outside,
Night Water—I'll subscribe,
Git me an email to call my own.
Spoiler alert for an 80-year-old musical, but in his attempt to subscribe to Night Water, Jud drops his phone and it shatters. He never finds out what it's like to consume that refreshing, late night content.
Luckily for us, no such tragedy befell our 600th subscriber, Jack Isacke, who was similarly plagued by an uncontrollable desire to subscribe to Night Water once he was coaxed into it by yours truly. Lured into nighttime hydration by the promise of pure question and answer content and a backlink to his website, Jack successfully joined our ranks on January 31, three months after subscriber 500 similarly gave in to their digital desires.
To celebrate, let's all gather 'round the campfire for our 600th Subscriber Special!
Who are you and what is your deal?
My name is Jack Isacke—photographer, friend, interim vegan, beer lover, movie-goer, brother-in-law, Night Water subscriber.
How did you hear about Night Water?
I remember always hearing buzz about Night Water but it took me a while to actually place the name. Kind of like that feeling of when you know you know a movie title or a song name, but it stays on the tip of your tongue for so long until one day you're like "Oh my god... Night Water!" That's how it happened for me at least.
Where were you when you found out you were Night Water's 600th subscriber?
Funny enough, I was actually with you, Adam, when you casually mentioned that Night Water was only one subscriber away from hitting 600. You said something like, "You know, I've actually been doing these Q&As after every 100th subscriber." The room got hot. I remember trying to play it cool so as not to give away the fact that I knew all about this and had, unbeknownst to you, been keeping a very close eye on what some have been calling "the road to 600." I kept my composure, nonchalantly pulled out my phone, and did what I always knew I was born to do: subscribe to nightwater.email.
Now that you're subscribed to Night Water, what's next for you?
Now that I'm subscribed I am going to finally enjoy reading full newsletters without being prompted to subscribe to continue reading. Aside from that, the combination of moving to New York City and having access to all these great new plant-based food options is making me think, I don't know, I could be heading towards full-time vegan. I should also get a job.
What does the phrase "late night vibes" mean to you?
Beer and basketball.
Thanks, Jack. We look forward to your veganism and gainful employment in the near future.
Join us next week as we take a look back at Night Water's second year of publication in a sequel post to Night Water: Year One. I'm thinking of calling it 2 Night 2 Water.
